Juliana Gerard

Juliana Gerard

Dr Juliana Gerard joined the School of Communication and Media at Ulster University in 2016. Her research and teaching interests are in language acquisition and language processing in children and adults. Her work has focused on how processes that are not specific to language, like memory and inhibitory control, can influence children’s language development.

Dr Gerard studied linguistics and cognitive science at the University of California, Los Angeles. She then moved to Maryland to pursue a PhD in linguistics, specialising in children's language acquisition, and finally to Ulster as a Lecturer in linguistics.

Tandy Jane Haughey

Tandy Jane Haughey

Tandy Jane Haughey studied at Ulster University from 1994–1996, graduating with a BA (Hons), PGCE in Physical Education and an MSc. After spending time in industry as a physical education teacher, sports development officer and a coach training and development officer, she joined Ulster as a Lecturer in Sports Coaching and Development in 2005, where she contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, research, community outreach and consultancy. Tandy is involved with the development of CPPD for children’s coaching from a Northern Ireland perspective. Her research areas of interest relate to sports coaching and specifically the importance of movement skills across the life course to support the development of ‘Physical Literacy’.

Shauna McGill

Shauna McGill

Shauna McGill currently holds a PhD in Education with Ulster University but also holds a Masters of Teaching from Queens University and a Bachelor of Education (Hons) from University of Glasgow. As Course Director for the PGCE Primary Course on the Coleraine Campus, Shauna has been employed as a Lecturer of Education for the past 15 years, additionally working as a primary teacher for 5 years before this role. Research interests include Teacher Education, Primary Mathematics and Mobile Technology. Shauna has presented her research at various national and international conferences and is a member of the British Society for Research into Learning Mathematics.

Victoria Singer

Victoria Singer

Dr Victoria Singer graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) from City University, London in 2001. She subsequently completed a MSc in Speech and Language Sciences at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand and a PhD in Linguistics at Ulster University. Following completion of her PhD, Dr Singer joined the School of Health Sciences at UU as a Lecturer in SLT. She currently combines her work at UU with clinical practice and her research interests relate to children’s language acquisition, late talking, language disorder, and the development of screening and assessment tools.
